Is Obama weak on terror?

Is Barack Obama weak on terror? When one the first acts of the president is to close a prison where some of the most dangerous terrorists are being kept, one would have to say Obama is starting off the national security of this great country on the wrong foot. How about doing a little research and some thoughtful consideration before closing Gitmo, instead of appeasing your left wing base? Some 9/11 family members are mad about the closure of Gitmo and justifiably so:

We all need to keep Obama’s feet to the fire, because what he did today, has in no way made the United States a safer place, in fact I believe it has put us in more danger! I'm worried this guy, Obama, is clueless in protecting this nation, he has never been in charge of anything in his life, now we are asking him to keep us safe! Time will tell if he can!

We find out that released prisoners from Gitmo are returning to the battlefield--who could have saw this coming? From Reuters:
The Pentagon said on Tuesday that 61 former detainees from its military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody. Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said 18 former detainees are confirmed and 43 suspected of "returning to the fight." He said the figures, updated at the end of December, showed a higher rate of recidivism than seen in a previous report showing 37 former detainees as active militants. He provided no details about the detainees or their countries of origin. "The overall known terrorist re-engagement rate has increased to 11 percent" from about 7 percent, Morrell said. The numbers were generated by the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency based on fingerprints, photographs and intelligence reports, he said. |
Next we find out Obama wants to close Gitmo--but there is one problem--what to do with all of those dangerous prisoners? If Obama lets those prisoners go and they return to terrorism and kill Americans his presidency will be over. The National Security of the United States is what I care about. I know everyone wants to focus on the economy, but the safety of the American people must stay on the minds of our leaders, and I am worried that quite a bit of time has passed since 9/11, that we are starting to forget that horrific day. Till my last breath, I will never forget 9/11--it is what defines my life, and it always will.
