Canada, what are you thinking? We, in the US consider Canada an ally, but putting the US and Israel on the torture watch list gives our enemies ammunition to use against in the propaganda war, and that could definitely stir up resentment and create even more terrorism against US and Israel. Not a very smart move! Here is an excerpt from Reuters:

An official Canadian government document has put both the United States and Israel on a watch list of countries where prisoners run the risk of being tortured, CTV television reported on Thursday. The revelation is likely to embarrass the minority Conservative government, which is a staunch U.S. ally. The document mentions the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba where a Canadian man is being held. CTV said the document was part of a course on torture awareness given to Canadian diplomats to help them determine whether prisoners they visited abroad had been mistreated. It said the document mentioned U.S. interrogation techniques such as “forced nudity, isolation, and sleep deprivation.” Other countries on the watch list include Syria, China, Iran and Afghanistan, CTV said. A spokesman for Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier tried to distance Ottawa from the document. “The training manual is not a policy document and does not reflect the views or policies of this government,” he said.

The New York Times is reporting that the Bush Administration is considering unleashing the CIA to conduct more ‘more aggressive’ covert operation inside of Pakistan. The reasoning for the possible new push is an Al Qaeda’s resurgence in Pakistan and their desire to create mass havoc in that country. Some of the possibilities the Bush Administration is considering in granting the CIA more latitude in selecting targets inside of Pakistan’s borders and the issues of protecting Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. Some in the US State Department are concerned that US Military Operation inside of Pakistan’s border could create tension amongst the general population and Musharraf, which could mean instability within the country.

Ron Paul is a candidate for President of the United States. His immigration plan is very interesting and should be looked at with careful consideration. We don’t agrees with most Mr. Paul’s positions but as Investor Business Daily put it , ‘Muslim student visas are no fringe topic.’ And we agree with that assessment too, Muslim student visas need to be considered in the immigration debate. Here is why:

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, 22 of the 94 foreign-born nationals convicted or indicted on terror charges from 1993 to 2004 were in the U.S. on student visas. And in a little-noticed 2005 deal struck between President Bush and Saudi King Abdullah, 21,000 young Saudi men will gain U.S. student visas by 2009.

No Iranian Students at Dutch University

A Dutch University has banned Iranian students from attending the Technical University Twente out of fear that the student might try to gain technical nuclear secrets. But we thought Iran didn’t have a nuclear program???Here is an excerpt:

Iranian students are not welcome at the Technical University Twente in the town of Enschede. At the request of the Education Ministry and the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the university has agreed not to admit any Iranian students. The government fears that Iranian students and workers would steal sensitive nuclear information to help their government develop nuclear weapons. The university’s decision is the direct result of a 2006 UN resolution calling on member states to prevent Iran from gaining access to nuclear knowledge.

The UN has been concerned about the Iranian nuclear research programme for some time. The International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear watchdog, says there is no evidence that Iran is developing its own nuclear weapon. However, at the same time Iran is accused of not providing sufficient information on its uranium enrichment programme.

The most recent US intelligence report on Iran also concludes that there is no evidence of an Iranian nuclear arms programme, but it does accuse Iran of withholding information. Tehran insists that its enrichment programme is intended exclusively for domestic production of the fuel rods needed for a nuclear power plant currently under construction.
